Sidwell played its season and home opener on a day that seemed out of place, considering all the snow in February and rain in March. Game time temperature was 65 degrees.

Neither Sidwell nor Potomac had been able to spend much time practicing outdoors on the infield, so both teams came out raw with players having seen few game situations as hitters, fielders, or pitchers. Sidwell's goal was to hit lots of ground balls on offense, minimize walks given up by our pitchers, and stay loose on defense.

Sidwell fell short in meeting the offensive goal, with not enough ground balls and instead too many fly balls and strikeouts. However, there were a number of bright spots, as Sidwell players recorded four extra base hits.

Sidwell's pitching was impressive with strong performances from each of Chris Stevens, Chase Plebani, and Aaron Lewin. Combined, the three struck out 11 and walked six, not great numbers for late in the season but terrific for first time out.

Defensively, the Quakers were relaxed and made nearly all of the routine plays. Luke Friedman made a number of terrific plays at shortstop, including one assist on a ground ball hit deep into the six hole. Will Mendez did a nice job catching and ended the game when he caught a Panther runner trying to steal second.

The Quakers go on Spring Break next week but will start up again with a game against Flint Hill on Friday, April 2.
