Sidwell starter, Matt McLaughlin, worked the entire game for the Quakers. Effective throughout, McLaughlin allowed only two walks and five hits. The only blemish came in the bottom of the 4th when Wilsonville put up two runs on two hits and an error. Unfortunately, without run support, the individual pitching effort and excellent team defense, led by David Steinbach who made a number of excellent plays at short, proved futile.
The Quakers scattered several hits but were unable to string enough of them together to score any runs. Rallies in the 6th and 7th came up empty. In the 6th, Sidwell had first and second with none out...and then bunted into a double play. In the 7th, Sidwell loaded the bases...only to line out to the third baseman to end the game.
Despite the loss, improvements on the defensive side were notable.
