Starter Owen Liu-Bailey had his best start of the year against visiting St. Albans. He was virtually untouchable through four innings. Liu-Bailey was especially efficient in the second inning (eight pitches) and the third inning (five pitches, using just three pitches to retire the two great bats at the top of St. Albans' lineup). After getting a quick out in the fifth, he faltered a bit -- but reliever Cody Encarnacion entered and earned a terrific 2.1 inning save. In the final inning, facing 9-1-2 with a one-run lead, Encarnacion struck out the nine-hole, struck out the leadoff hitter, and induced a 4-3 ground out to end the game.
The Quaker offense produced early, creating a comfortable lead. Daniel Piho hit his first home run of the season in the first to put the Quakers on the board, and Sidwell scored four times in the second off a hit-and-run (Zack Liu-Bailey), a double (Tommy Levy), and a home run (Porter Speece). Speece recorded another RBI when he doubled in Levy in the 4th.
The Quakers continue their tough non-conference stretch on Tuesday (Gonzaga) and Thursday (Landon).
