DCSAA Tournament quarterfinals.

Sidwell won a quarterfinal matchup against Gonzaga on the back of senior starter Cody Encarnacion, who was electric. Despite seven defensive errors, the Quakers were able to stay competitive with Encarnacion going six innings, striking out nine, and holding the Eagles to four singles -- a remarkable achievement under pressure against a great offense.

The offense was led by leadoff hitter Tommy Levy, who went three for four -- and his only out was a 370' flyout to the centerfield warning track that their center fielder made a terrific play on. Stephen Koopersmith and Karsin Patel made clutch contributions, as each recorded a multiple-rbi, extra-base hit.

And, in the most dramatic fashion, junior Johnny Klug recorded an electric save in the final inning. His success was made all the more exciting by the fact that the first two batters reached base before the third batter popped out on a bunt to Daniel Piho, who charged quickly from third. A brief but animated celebration ensued after Koopersmith caught a fly ball in right field to record to the final out: the Quakers will be back to work at practice tomorrow in anticipation of a semifinal matchup with St. Albans on Thursday afternoon.
