As lop-sided as this loss was for the Quakers, the game represented progress. Plate discipline was a bit better, focus was better, and defense was much better. Simply put Georgetown Prep hit very well, especially with runners in scoring position, and they took advantage of free passes in the form of walks and hit-batsmen. Prep also played exceptional defense, which included robbing the Quakers of two hits in the bottom of the first: against Nikhil Nelson, their shortstop ranged to the right side of second base on a would-be hit up the middle; against Zack Gayer, their third baseman made a nice grab on a ball smacked down the line and then fired a 140-foot throw across the diamond to beat Gayer by a step.

In addition to making almost every routine play on defense, the Quakers made diving catches in left field (Flynn McGrath) and second base (Nikhil Nelson).

If the Quakers can get the bats to wake up, progress should be able to take the form of runs and wins, as the team heads into the midway point in the season.
