In a high scoring affair, Sidwell emerged victorious after staging a good comeback and hitting well in a number of different innings.
Sidwell pitchers Max Kohn and Robin Pollak did a good job forcing GDS to put the ball in play; the two pitchers combined for only four walks. The defense played fairly well, combining some terrific plays -- including two diving plays in the middle infield by Brenner Bernstein at short and Kaoru Yamazaki at second -- with some errant throws and a few fielding errors.
Offense was prolific. Four Quakers had multi-hit games, including George Marcou who went 4-4 with a double and a triple. In the fourth inning, Shane Tierney bombed a ball over the right field fence and onto Quebec Street. His two run blast was pivotal and put the Quakers back within one run.
In the sixth, to lead off the inning Bernstein, Matt Sarro, and Marcou recorded consecutive hits to tie the game. Then, after an intentional walk to Oscar Boochever, Karou Yamazaki hit an RBI ground ball, Stephanie Everett hit a sacrifice fly to left, and Justin Margolin smacked an RBI double off the wall in right field. The three run cushion was more than enough for Pollak to work in the seventh. The game ended in favor of the Quakers, 12-10.
