The Quakers came out strong in the season's first away game, on a frigid day at Wakefield High School in Arlington. In the top of the first inning, five different Quaker batters recorded line drive hits, and the team scored four runs. Unfortunately, the bottom half of the inning mirrored the top half, and the score was tied 4-4 after the first inning.
After the first inning, the offense tailed off. And, in addition to again issuing too many walks, some untimely errors caused trouble for the Quakers. The errors were costly in the middle innings when Wakefield plated four unearned runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish.
A highlight for the Quakers was that the team's nine hits were recorded by eight different players. So, the offense continues to look solid, especially for this early point in the season.
At various points during the first two games, pitching, defense, and hitting have each looked good. The task is to put them together at the same time -- and sustaining such a combination over several innings.
