In a forgettable game, Sidwell lost 1-6 to host W&L on their senior day. The Quakers didn't do too much right in any facet of the game. For example, despite a bumpy surface on which ground balls were ideal, Sidwell popped out almost 10 times. The defense wasn't horrible -- and included a nice on-the-run play by shortstop Tommy Levy and a great tag on a two-out throw that pulled first baseman Teddy Friedman off the bag -- but it wasn't clean either.

The one highlight for the Quakers was John McMurray who did a nice job in center field and willed the Quakers to their only run of the day: in the top of the sixth, McMurray led off with a single (for anyone else) that he stretched into a double by reaching top speed immediately upon leaving the batters box and never hesitating when rounding first on a ball hit to the right of the left fielder; he then scored from second on a two-out ground ball to the shortstop, which he couldn't handle. Again, McMurray was at top speed immediately and never hesitated when rounding third base: he knew what he was going to do before the ball was hit.
