By a wide margin, Sidwell played their best game of the year -- beating a tough Flint Hill team that put relentless pressure on the Quaker defense. The Huskies only gave up four walks and committed no errors, forcing Sidwell to earn all their runs.

Sidwell put forth a complete effort, highlighted by Logan Matthiesen's brilliant, complete-game effort. Nearly 70% of his 105 pitches were strikes. He was tenacious and aggressive, throwing strikes on six out of seven pivotal 1-1 counts.

The complete effort also included good hitting, aggressive base running, and the best defense of the year -- particularly with runners on base in crucial situations. The Quakers had two double plays on defense and hit well with two outs. Every player in the lineup contributed:

Brenner Bernstein led off the game with a single, made nine different plays at short stop, and ended the game by catching a tough towering pop-up in the sun;

Stephanie Everett called a great game behind the plate, blocked nearly every ball in the dirt, and recorded two crucial hits;

Ethan Kohn, hitting for Matthiesen, drove in the first run of the game in the first inning;

Ted Hefter made a leaping catch on a line drive and doubled the runner off third to end the top of the sixth inning. He also ripped a two out, two RBI triple in the fifth;

Oscar Boochever was 3-3 on the day, stole two bases, and hit a two out, hustle, RBI double in the fifth;

George Marcou played well at first base, making three picks (out of three attempts) on throws from across the diamond to record crucial outs.

Riley Davies had an RBI sac bunt;

Ethan Jaskowiak ended the first inning with an on-the-run catch in right field to prevent the Huskies from scoring two;

Octavio Bruetman drew a patient walk to load the bases in the Quaker sixth;

Avery Schonberger initiated a 4-6-3 double play in the seventh on a rocketed ground ball to second base; and

Kaoru Yamazaki just missed a home run, flying out on a towering fly ball to the warning track.
