The Quakers dropped their first game since the season opener to a fundamentally sound Heights team. Nate Freishtat threw a great five innings, and Adrian Vera did the same for one inning in relief. However, the Heights hitters outperformed the Sidwell hitters, and that performance made the difference.

The umpire had a generously big zone, making it difficult to hit with two strikes. While the Quakers took (or missed on) good pitches early in the count, the Heights players did not -- and did a better job hitting balls hard and putting them in play. The increased pressure that the Heights put on Sidwell yielded three errors and three unearned runs (of the six they scored). The Quakers could not match six runs; though Sidwell did have the same five hits that the Heights did, the Sidwell hits were not strung together well enough to score runs.

The Heights was the better team today, but the Quakers carry a strong 6-2 record into the second half of the season.
