In a home game on a Friday afternoon, Joey Romansky worked effectively on the mound for his second win, and Adrian Vera pitched two innings in relief to earn his first save.

While solid pitching is a familiar story this season, hopping out to a sizeable early lead is not -- but it was the case in this game. Sidwell scored quickly, when Nate Freishtat -- batting in the second spot -- doubled to deep left field, scoring leadoff batter James Klusaritz. The Quakers managed six more runs through the first two innings and jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

The defense faltered in the fifth and surrendered four runs on two errors. Romansky worked out of the jam and recorded two consecutive strikeouts to end the inning and his afternoon.

The defense perked up in the top of the sixth: with two outs and runners on first and third, GDS tried to steal second. Freishtat, at catcher, threw down; while the runner was safe at second, Romansky (now at shortstop) quickly gunned the ball back to Freishtat, who put a great tag on the runner, preventing the sixth GDS run from scoring and ending the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sam Mogilnicki hit a two-out RBI single to right field to add an insurance run, which took some of the pressure off Vera and allowed him to close out the game without concern for the two GDS runners who reached base in the seventh.

The Quakers will be back at it tomorrow, when they host St. James in the team's only Saturday afternoon home game of the season.
