The starting line up for the Sidwell Friends Quakers:

1 Elie Goldman CF
2 Luke Friedman P
3 Chase Plebani 1B
4 David Steinbach SS
5 Matthew McLaughlin 3B
6 Matt Romansky LF
7 Peter Bell 2B

Top of the First...

First pitch swinging and first batter retired on a routine fly ball to LF Matt Romansky...Another routine fly ball to Matt Romansky for the 2nd out of the inning... 2 up and 2 down. Pitcher Luke Friedman retires all 3 batters on 8 pitchers on 3 fly balls to the outfield. Sam Lipscomb makes a catch on the run in right center for the 3rd out. Middle 1st.

Bottom of the First...

Leadoff hitter Elie Goldman strokes a line drive to center. Man on first with no outs. Goldman steals second. Friedman pops out to the pitcher. Goldman swipes 3rd with one out on a high pitch to Plebani. RBI groundout for Plebani brings in Goldman. 1 - 0 Quakers! Clean up hitter David Steinbach smacks a line drive into left field -- trying to start a 2 out rally for the Quakers. Steinbach is caught stealing second to end the 1st with 1 run across the plate. End 1st.

Top of the Second...

Leadoff single for the Wolverines. Friedman continues to throw strikes. A pickoff throw gets away from Plebani at first and the runner advances to second. Fly out to right field for the first out of the inning. Steinbach saves a run by stopping a ball in the hole but a infield single results. First and third. Line drive to center brings in one and runner advances to 2nd with one out. Another line drive to left field scores one and now there are two on with one out. Friedman works ahead in the count and strikes out the 9 hitter for the 2nd out of the inning. Great play by Steinbach on a big hop to end the inning. Middle 2nd.

Bottom of the Second...

McLaughlin leads off the 2nd for the Quakers and strikes out on a high pitch for the first out. Romansky strikes out on three pitches for the second out of the inning. Bell looking to start a two-out rally. Bell reaches on an error by the Wolverines' first baseman. Bell steals 2nd with two outs, putting a runner in scoring position for the Quakers. Another fielding error puts Stevens on at first. Men on the corners for the Quakers. Stevens steals second and for the 3rd time in two days Stevens gets hit in the head on the throw down (but no significant injury, thankfully). Courtesy Runner for Stevens (Levy) is put in on second base. Lipscomb fights with 2 strikes to stay alive. Lipscomb works a two out walk, bringing up the top of the order for the Quakers. Goldman works 3 straight balls as the pitcher appears out of sorts. A RBI walk for goldman brings in a run. Pitcher Luke Friedman hits a clutch bases loaded single which brings in 2 and an additional run on an error by the centerfielder, which also allows Friedman to advance to second base. Courtesy Runner Monheim in at second base. Plebani pops out to SS to end the inning but before that, four two out runs for the Quakers gives them a three run lead after two innings.

Top of the Third...

Friedman issues his first walk of the game to the leadoff hitter for West Geauga. McLaughin catches a hard hit line drive to 3rd base and tries to double off the runner at first but unsuccessful. Man on first with one out. Passed ball allows the runner to advance to second base. Ball four and 2nd passed ball leaves runners at 1st and 3rd with one out. Mound visit by Coach Nadler. Friedman flashes the leather on a hard ground ball back at him and throws the batter runner out at first -- but a run scores on the play. Man on 2nd, two outs for West Geauga. Hard ground ball down the 3rd base line brings in one more. Luke "the undertaker" Friedman puts the batter to sleep with an uncle charlie to end the inning.

Bottom of the Third...

David Steinbach leads off the inning with a line out to second. McLaughlin manages a walk to give Sidwell a baserunner. Next, Romansky takes four balls and heads on over to first base. But this small victory is short lived as McLaughlin is caught stealing at third. Pete Bell grounds to third, but, with the help of an error by the third baseman, makes it safely to first. Bell and Romansky then safely advance on a passed ball -- making it runners on second and third with two outs. Chris Stevens also reaches on an error, bringing in the two runners. Levy in to run for the catcher; Sam Lipscomb grounds out. Inning over.

Top of the Fourth

First guy hits an infield single despite Steinbach's best effort at short and reaches second on a steal. Next guy hits a single; runner holds at third but batter reaches second on throw. Another single to left brings both runners in and the batter reaches second on the throw. Friedman works ahead 0-2...but then plunks the batter. Friedman comes back on the next batter and rings him up with a deadly curve. The runners reach second and third on a double steal. A single to right brings another run home and it's a tie ball game, folks. The next batter flies to center bringing another runner home and advancing the man on first to second. The inning ends with a ground out to third.

[A technical issue/human error caused the play-by-play for innings b4-t6 to be deleted. We are sorry for this inconvenience. At the middle of the 6th, the score is tied at 10-10.]

Bottom of the 6th

McLaughlin leads off for the Quakers. He hits a ground ball to second base, and it bounces off the glove of the second basemen. McLaughlin ends up on first base. Derek Levinson is in for Romansky. Derek comes to the plate, ready to hit a bomb. Levinson lays down a terrific bunt and is out at first on the sacrifice. McLaughlin to second. Bell hits one up the middle of the field, and it gets through, SCORING MCLAUGHLIN. QUAKERS NOW LEAD 11-10. Bell is piked off at first, but he has done the job. Stevens to the plate. Stevens grounds out to pitcher -- but the Quakers take a one run lead into the last inning.

Top of the 7th

This could be the last half inning on the game. Brown climbs the hill again. He throws a beautiful curveball, and gets the first batter with a backwards K. Two outs left. Brown strikes out the next batter with a forwards K. One out left. Monhiem is getting very worked up on the bench. Brown walks the next batter, who moves to second on the steal; no throw. The next hitter hits a grounder in between first and second and the runner scores from second. The score is tied once again; runner moves to second on a steal, again no throw. Next hitter grounds it up the middle, and the ball is bobbled by Bell. No outs on the play, runners on first and third. The runner on first moves to second on the steal; no throw. The next hitter pops out to Plebani at first to end the half inning. Score tied at 11.

Bottom of the 7th

Levy leads off for the Quakers. Any run scored here would result in a Quaker victory. Levy works to a full count...strike 3. One out. Goldman is hit by the pitch -- in the foot. And he's not happy about it. Brown to the plate. Brown grounds to third, but the ball slips under the glove of the third basemen. Runners now on first and second. Still one out. Plebani walks. Steinbach up with one out and the bases loaded...he falls behind 0-2...fouls one off...puts one in play to shortstop with Goldman moving...throw to home not in time!!! Goldman scores!!! Sidwell wins 12-11.
