Sidwell opened up the season with a tough game defensively. Having surrendered 10 unearned runs on the day, the Quakers clearly need to improve on this aspect of the game as the season moves forward.

Leaving the bases loaded in the first inning without scoring any runs put a dent in the Quakers' fortunes. Gonzaga picked up four runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never trailed again. Sidwell made a bid for a comeback in the third, scoring four runs including a home run from sophomore Michael Untereiner, who went 1 for 3 on the day with 3 RBI.

The other bright spots for the Quakers came from senior Tray Brown who went 2-3 in the game, adding a homer of his own in addition to a double. Aaron Lewin also doubled to round out the extra base production for the Quakers.

Chase Plebani pitched two and a third innings, giving up 7 unearned runs and striking out three. H e was relived by Aidan Monheim who tossed three and two thirds while giving up 3 unearned runs and striking out one. Matt Levy was the third pitcher for the Quakers and he pitched a scoreless frame, giving up a single hit and also striking out one.
