Sidwell lost a disappointing game -- in 11 innings to Potomac.

Starter Sam Lipscomb did a terrific job on the mound, throwing seven innings (99 pitches) which included only three hits and three runs (all unearned). He struck out six while walking three. Reliever Luke Friedman did a nice job in the beginning of extra innings, economically retiring each of the seven batters he faced. Max Kohn pitched the second two thirds of the 10th and the first third of the 11th before Potomac tallied their game-winning run on an errant play at third base.

There was some drama and great defensive plays made by both teams. In the second inning, left fielder Stephanie Everett made a great catch on the run to snag a ball out of the air. The catch was one of five made by Everett in left field over the course of the game. In the bottom of the seventh, after a dropped line drive, which allowed the game-tying run to score, the Quakers found themselves in search of a third out -- with a runner on third base. Their hitter smashed a line drive at short stop. Brenner Bernstein knocked it down on its first hop, grabbed the ball off the ground, and fired to first -- beating the runner by a single step and sending the game into extra innings.

During the four extra innings, the Quakers put runners in scoring position twice -- but failed to drive them in. The closest opportunity was when Berstein drove a line drive down the left field line with runners on second and third with two outs in the 10th. But, their left fielder sprinted over, slid, and make a full-extention catch to make the third out. In the 11th, the same left fielder made a more routine catch for the third out with another runner on second base.

In the bottom of 11th, Potomac put two runners on -- off a walk and a hit-by-pitch. A fake bunt drew third baseman Matt Sarro in and the throw to third on the stolen base attempt glanced off his glove while he was retreating to the base, allowing the runner to score and ending the three hour game.
