Umpires did not show up for Thursday's home game against St. Andrew's. Coach Mormino did the umpiring to rave reviews from both dugouts (note: Coach Mormino is the author of this summary). Given that all games this year are essentially exhibitions, the question of forfeit or not on the basis of not delivering umpires is not as relevant as it would be in a typical year.
In any case the Quakers did a solid job. Two highlights of the game both involve catcher Nate Carpenter-Holmes. First, in the top of the first, he recorded the third out on a 4-6-3-2 (Eric Sun -> Will Phillips -> Mihir Patel -> Carpenter-Holmes) triple play. Then, in the sixth, he recorded his third hit of the day, a moonshot homerun over the right-center fence, to record the Quaker's first homerun of the year. Sidwell and St. Andrew's square off again on Saturday at noon at St. Andrew's.
