On Saturday, the Quakers found themselves playing in their 3rd straight shutout at home, albeit on the losing end this time, falling by a score of 6-0 against a talented Riverdale Baptist School. The visiting Crusaders would use a mix of strong pitching and timely hitting to break open a 0-0 game in the later innings to take the victory, spoiling a great outing by pitchers Eli Berman and Alex Allamby.

Berman, with excellent command, particularly with runners in scoring position, would work methodically through four innings, but ultimately would surrender a few hard-hit balls once the visitors were able to time up the fastball on the third time through the order. Berman finished with seven Ks before turning the game over to Allamby, who in only his second appearance of the season, held his own in the 6th and 7th, striking out two and issuing but one walk and one hit.

On offense, the Quaker bats would be left at home to sleep in for the early Saturday morning start. Sidwell, able to scratch out only one hit despite putting 13 in play, couldn’t avoid the stingy RBS defense, playing nearly a flawless game. The Quakers would only send two more than the minimum 21 to the plate, with third baseman Lee Gillies notching the home team’s only hit, a double to deep left-center field.

Sidwell will gear up for the final stretch of the season, hoping to avoid April showers, first welcoming GDS for a rematch on Monday, followed by two more within the last week of the month.
