Under partly cloudy skies and a cold breeze, Sidwell welcomed the Frogs of Maret for a mid-afternoon meeting on the diamond.

Locked-in and ready-to-throw, starter Tanner Breslin would overlook a few dust-ups by the Quaker defense in the opening frame, eventually stranding a pair of Frogs after inducing a fly ball to older brother and center fielder Aidan Breslin. From there, the younger Breslin would calmly work through another three innings, only needing to turn over the lineup once, and ending the day having struck out five Maret hitters, while issuing only one walk.

Before Tanner’s day was done, Sidwell opened the scoring in the 3rd with consecutive singles with the bases loaded by the ever-ready duo of Robby Schooling and Lee Gillies. After the RBI, Gillies’s day turned to a relief effort on the mound, where the 4-0 lead provided by the Quaker bats would be more than enough cushion. Gillies, in sync with catcher Eli Berman, would face only one more than the minimum the rest of the way, after a particularly nifty move on 1st and 3rd yielded a double play.

At the plate, Gillies and Berman would combine to go 4-5, including a double and a triple, with seven total RBIs, a tough combination for anyone to beat in the middle of a Quaker lineup gaining confidence on offense in the tail end of a short season.

Sidwell gets to back to business on Friday when hosting a Flint Hill team hungry for revenge from an early-season loss at the hands of the Quakers.
