The Quakers of Sidwell Friends took a short trip across Chain Bridge to square off against The Potomac School on a picture perfect mid-week afternoon in nearby McLean, Virginia.
After jumping out to a big 11-2 lead, Sidwell was able to hold on to a narrow 12-10 victory having battled a mix of walks and untimely defensive mishaps, despite executing three double plays. Offensively, extra credit is due to shortstop Tommy Levy, catcher Eli Berman, and first baseman Teddy Friedman for notching a trio of RBI, hits, and runs, respectively, which helped build up enough of a cushion for the Quaker pitchers to work through. Typical starter Tanner Breslin was brought in for a rare relief appearance, shutting down any threat of a comeback with a 6-out save after starter George Bankoff and Cody Encarnacion did what they could to limit the damage.
With the victory over the Panthers, the Quakers were able to get the proverbial ‘monkeys off their backs’, with records showing the last JV Quaker victory over Potomac having come nearby four years ago to the day. Sidwell will look to fix the mistakes with a quick practice before hitting the road yet again to the Old Dominion for a matchup against St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School on Friday.
