The JV Huskies of Flint Hill gave Sidwell Friends all they could on a March-like, May afternoon, but in the end, it was the Quakers coming out as the victors on the road by the score of 15-2. While only plating runners in three of their six innings at-bat, Sidwell, when they could strike, struck often, batting around in both the third inning and the decisive sixth inning. With the hosts preparing for a stretch-run of five games in six days to close their season, the Huskies coaches elected to prioritize keeping pitch counts low, using five different hurlers in the contest, notable for future years as the primarily freshman team continues to gain experience.

On offense, the sound swings of Sidwell sluggers, scoring 15 runs despite no extra base hits, proved that singles are enough to win ballgames. On the day, there was no better example than first baseman Teddy Friedman, who routinely deposited fastballs in between and over infielders, finishing the day with four of Sidwell’s 11 hits. Fellow corner infielder, third baseman Daniel Piho, would also notch a multi-hit day that saw each of the 10 position players making the stat sheet and finding time on base.

On defense, it was the familiar duo of George Bankoff and Cody Encarnacion, with their complementing styles, combining to strike out seven Flint Hill batters while issuing but a pair of hits apiece, executing the calls of batterymates Ari Gedan and Stephen Koopersmith with efficiency.

After a rest-day and light practice, the Sidwell JV will end its season with a trip to Georgetown Prep on Saturday morning and a home game against Potomac on Monday.
