Sidwell Friends broke out of a four-game slide in a big way, just in time for the weekend, with the Quaker bats igniting for 10 runs on a Friday afternoon in front of a home crowd hungry for a win.
After allowing a hit in the top half of the first inning, one of only two for the visiting Huskies of Flint Hill against pitcher Tanner Breslin, the starter would deploy a crafty pickoff move to first baseman Teddy Friedman to eliminate the early threat without wasting another pitch. The momentum carried into the home-half when the Quakers would open the scoring using three of their season-high 10 hits to take an early 2-0 lead.
In the second, after yet another baserunner let aboard, Breslin, on his way to hurling a 5-inning complete game, would induce a ground ball for Owen Liu-Bailey to start up the 5-4-3 double play, with Daniel Piho making the quick turn at second base. After tacking on three more runs in the bottom half, Sidwell was well on their way to victory, scoring in every frame thereafter, ending the game early in a 10-run rule shortened game. Other special accolades deserving recognition include multi-hit games from Breslin, shortstop Tommy Levy, and catcher Eli Berman, as well as Elie Fisher, having scored four times on the day.
More good practices will await the victors in the early parts of next week before two more road games on Wednesday and Friday.
