Sidwell faced Wilson in the first round of the Wilson Invitational Tournament played at the newly constructed Fort Reno field. The Quakers won a hard fought game that went into extra innings.

The game stayed close throughout, with Sidwell starter Sam Stevens pitching effectively through five innings. He struck out four, while only allowing one walk and five hits. After Wilson's second hitter started off the sixth inning with a triple, Stevens was relieved by fellow junior Mark Ossolinski. Ossolinski walked two batters and gave up a hit before settling down to get two outs on ground balls and the final out of the inning on a strikeout. All told, Sidwell found themselves losing 3-5 going into their last turn at bat.

Nick Fineman led off the top of the Quaker 7th by reaching on an error on a hard hit ball to third base, and Bryan Goldman entered for him as a pinch runner. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Nick Fernandez hit a ball to second base, but Wilson dropped the ball at second while trying to start a double play, leaving Sidwell runners on first and second with no outs. Brett Perrin reached base on the next pitch with a terrific bunt single hit down the first base line, and senior Paul Carrier came to the plate with the bases loaded. On a 3-0 pitch, Carrier smacked a double down the right field line, scoring two runners and tying the game. These would be the only runs the Quakers could manage in the seventh.

Nick Roman entered the game as pitcher in the bottom of the seventh, and, after walking the last batter in Tiger lineup, proceded to retire Wilson's 1, 2, and 3 hitters in order, striking out two.

In the Quaker 8th, Stevens led off with a triple and scored two batters later on a sac fly hit by Fernandez. Two batters later, it was again Paul Carrier, driving a double into right field to notch another RBI and secure an insurance run for the Quakers.

Roman held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to earn the win, again striking out two, and the Quakers advanced to the afternoon finals of the tournament.
