The Skinny: The Quakers had another strong game offensively while Wes Roman pitched a brilliant 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball for a 7-6 win.

Synopsis: The first inning saw 11 of the 13 runs scored in the game. Sidwell, the away team, jumped on the Heights's starter early with a number of hits to put up 5 strong runs in the top of the 1st. In the bottom half, however, the Quakers struggled defensively while the Heights put the bat on the ball for 6 runs of their own. Starter Matt McLaughlin was relieved by Junior Wes Roman, who got Sidwell out of the inning.

Roman would not be stopped the rest of the game. He surrendered only 1 walk and 4 hits with no runs over 6 2/3 innings, even with a defense that committed five errors behind him. It was a windy day, with winds gusting up to 30 mph, making catching fly balls difficult.

The Quakers added a run to tie the game in the 3rd, and did not score again until the 6th. In the top of the 6th, with two outs, David Steinbach reached first on a walk, and Sam Stevens hit a single to move him over to third. The Quakers put on an early steal, which worked perfectly as the Heights countered with a slow third to first pickoff move and rushed a poor throw to second that did not get Stevens out while Steinbach ran home for the go-ahead run. This would be the only run Sidwell would need, as Wes Roman shut down the Heights in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-6 victory.

Analysis: The Quakers continued their hot hitting from earlier in the day, posting 13 hits against the Heights for a total of 25 in two games on the day. Sidwell limited strikeouts to only two, putting the pressure on the Heights, who made seven errors. Despite making five errors themselves, Sidwell allowed only two walks and got out of jams when they needed to. It was a true team effort for the Quakers, as all nine spots in the lineup recorded hits. Also of note, Junior Sam Stevens extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Looking Ahead: The Quakers won the Wilson Invitational Tournament and took home a nice big trophy with the win over the Heights. The win was especially sweet considering the Quakers disappointing loss less than 24 hours prior to MAC-leading Potomac. If the Quakers, who are now hitting .290 as a team this season, can continue piling up double-digit hits, they will be tough to stop. Sidwell has a non-league game at St. John's on Monday, their last road game of the regular season and a league game Tuesday at home against rival GDS.
